Before You Were Born

Posted in Song Lyrics
Before You Were Born

Floating on the ceiling looking down at my bed
Saw myself lying there as if I was dead
Couldn’t move a muscle, couldn’t open my eyes
My feet were in the kitchen but my head was in the skies

You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations
You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations

Travelling in my van in nineteen seventy-three
I heard the sunset singing in Germany
The swaying corn joined in in perfect harmony
My heart and soul took flight, I had set them free

You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations
You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations

At Glastonbury Festival (the very first one)
Rolling in the mud in nineteen seventy-one
I was the acid queen of Bristol
Way before you were born…

(Break)

Climbing up the Avon Gorge to have a cup of tea
I thought there was a café at The Observatory
Snowflakes on the ground that were as big as your hand
As if some God Almighty, had waved his magic wand

You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations
You don’t need drugs to have hallucinations

If life is but a dream what is reality?
Hope I find the answer deep inside of me
If life is but a game what is reality?
Hope I find the answer deep inside of me

You don’t need drugs to have imagination
You don’t need drugs to have communication
You don’t need drugs to have realisation
You don’t need drugs to have illumination

At Glastonbury Festival (the very first one)
Rolling in the mud in nineteen seventy-one
I was the acid queen of Bristol
Way before you were born
Before you were born
Before you were born….

Evermore

Posted in Song Lyrics
Evermore - Chandra Moon © October 2008

You said that you could make the sun shine.
"If you can," I said, "you'll always be mine."
You said that you could make the sun shine.
"If you can," I said, "I'll always be thine"

The sky cleared,
The grey disappeared,
The sun shone,
The clouds were gone
Evermore.

I always used to lock my door,
Afraid of what had gone before.
But now I leave it open wide,
So you can freely come inside.

The sky cleared,
The grey disappeared,
The sun shone,
The clouds were gone
Evermore.

You said that you could make the sun shine.
"If you can," I said, "you'll always be mine."
You said that you could make the sun shine.
"If you can," I said, "I'll always be thine"......

Evermore

Rain

I thought these lyrics appropriate for today's blog! It's just lashing it down constantly.

The Rain

Rain it falls upon the ground,
In the fields and on the towns.
Rivers fill until they flood
Streets and houses full of mud.

Rain, rain it poureth down
Please dear God
Don’t let us drown!

The sky turned black, the clouds did form
We had to shelter from the storm.
The wind it blew, the branches sway
The sun it should be bright today

But rain, rain it poureth down
Please dear God
Don’t let us drown!

We’ve burnt the coal and used the oil
Sucked the life from the living soil
They say things can only get worse
Global warming our future's curse.

Rain, rain it poureth down
Please dear God
Don’t let us drown!

Rain, rain it poureth down
Please dear God
Don’t let us drown!

Five Years Ago

Posted in Song Lyrics
Here's a new song I wrote over the last couple of weeks. I haven't recorded it yet but I have a melody and instrumental written already.

Five Years Ago Chandramoon © May 2008

Ships in the night
Couldn't say no
It wasn't love
Nowhere to go

Such an old friend
Gone on so long
Want it to end
I know it's wrong

Going nowhere fast

Five years have passed
Still can't say no
It isn't love
Get up and go

Can't be so hard
Find someone new
Pick up the phone
It's always you

Going nowhere fast

(intrumental break)

Ships in the night
Couldn't say no
It wasn't love
Five years ago................................

Here and Now

Posted in Song Lyrics
Chandramoon © May 2008

Here and Now
An empty space
Where we
Should have been

And here and now
In another place
I know
It can never be

ooh ooh ooh
ooh ooh ooh

Here and now
I still see your face
Although
It was just a dream

And here and now
She fills the place
I hoped
Belonged to me

ooh ooh ooh
ooh ooh ooh

Instrumental break

Here and now
Such a lonely place
Where you
Could have been.........................

No Friend of Mine

Posted in Song Lyrics
I wrote this today as a result of something a so called friend did last week. The tune's like a rock blues number so I'll record it some time!

No Friend Of Mine - © Chandramoon Feb 3rd 2008

No friend of mine
Would treat me so
Your jealous heart
You stooped so low

You crossed the line
We cheered for you
My moment came
You never knew

Oo oo oo oo oo oo….
Oo oo oo oo oo oo….

Across the hills
We walked for miles
Kicked autumn leaves
Climbed over stiles

Stood side by side
Your father’s grave
Left you alone
So you could pray

Oo oo oo oo oo oo….
Oo oo oo oo oo oo….

Cut to the quick
You made me hurt
What did I do?
You dished the dirt

You crossed the line
We cheered for you
My moment came
But where were you?

No friend of mine
No friend of mine
No friend of mine
No friend of mine
Are you

Oo oo oo oo oo oo….
Oo oo oo oo oo oo….

Rocking Horse

As you know, I'm gradually adding my song lyrics here on this second blog. Many of you have already read these lyrics but I'll tell you the story of what inspired them.

I had a boyfriend called E for three years many, many years ago. He was the most EXPENSIVE man I ever knew, he wrecked my house, took my car and generally caused me a lot of grief and annoyance plus my kids couldn't stand him.

When it came to tell him to leave MY house, he just wouldn't get the message, he kept saying "You don't mean it, you want me really" err NO, please leave!!

Eventually I packed his stuff when he was at work one day and eventually he realised I meant it. He packed the stuff into our car and finally left. What a relief!!

Anyway, I later discovered various things in the attic including the main part of an old rocking horse and I contacted him to come and get the last of his stuff. He never did and I had a wonderful bonfire in the end!!

This song is a completely true story and I hope you enjoy it. The recorded version of it is up at the moment on www.myspace.com/chandramoonsmusic and will be on the album.

Rocking Horse © Chandramoon Nov 2004

Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Consumed in the ashes of a bad divorce.

I told you to come and collect your things,
A box of books and a shirt that clings,
A fencing mask, a bottle of pills,
Your favourite suit and a pile of bills.

Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Consumed in the ashes of a bad divorce.

Stashed in attic all covered in dust,
Photographs, diaries, letters of lust.
I gave you time, when you didn't return,
I lit the match and I watched it burn.

Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Consumed in the ashes of a bad divorce.

Spring turned to Autumn and in the Winter
I dragged it down hands full of splinters.
I knew next day I would feel ashamed,
But threw it on and fed the flames.

I watched it staring from the embers,
Its red eyes glared but I couldn't remember
What I'd ever seen in you, what I'd ever seen in you.

I watched it staring from the embers,
Its red eyes glared but I couldn't remember
What I'd ever seen in you, what I'd ever seen in you.

Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Had you heard that I burned your rocking horse?
Consumed in the ashes of a bad divorce, divorce divorce.

Rocking horse, rocking horse
Rocking horse, rocking horse..........

Only You Know Who You Are

Posted in Song Lyrics
I thought the time was ripe to add another entry here at my second blog for song lyrics.

This was a very early song and it's about unrequited or forbidden love. I wrote this song about someone that I was very attracted to but for various reasons (mainly because I was married at the time) I decided not to go ahead with getting involved.

At the time, it was very painful and yet again at the moment I am feeling rather lovesick over someone who doesn't realise I like him so this song springs to mind - though it's a completely different situation.

Have you ever been in that place - where you know you can't be with someone but a big part of you would like to be?

Only You Know Who You Are

© Chandramoon October 2004

I've let you go, now set me free
(Only you know who you are)
I wanted you, you wanted me
(Only you know who you are)
You came to me out of the blue,
(Only you know who you are)
You know that I can't be with you
(Only you know who you are,
only you know who you are)

Why did I let these feelings in
(Only you know who you are)
Into my life, under my skin
(Only you know who you are)
It's over now, will never start
(Only you know who you are)
You've left a scar within my heart
(Only you know who you are,
only you know who you are)

Please, please leave me
Please, please leave me
Please, please leave me
(Only you know who you are)

I've let you go, now set me free
(Only you know who you are)
I wanted you, you wanted me
(Only you know who you are)
You came to me, out of the blue
(Only you know who you are)
You know that I can't be with you
(Only you know who you are,
only you know who you are)

Shadow Puppets

Posted in Song Lyrics
Out of the blue a new song suddenly came to me over the last few days! I guess it's because the album's virtually finished so my mind can begin to move on from the existing tracks!

Recently, I've been sleeping really badly and this song is about insomnia. I'll put the track up with the tune at some point - it's all written already - guitar part and rhythm so far.

Here's a very ROUGH idea of the song. Paddy Uglow on keyboards me on guitar and vocals.

Shadow Puppets - Listen

Shadow Puppets - Chandra Moon © Nov 2007

Why can’t they ever wait until the breaking of the day?
I try to block them out but still they come.
From the past until tomorrow, they have to have their say,
Find awful ways to keep me on the run

Shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Those shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.

I close my eyes and always try to focus on my breath,
Drown my thought within the shining light
But they crowd around the margins of my mind and speak of death
My sanity has almost taken flight.

Shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Those shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.

Shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Those shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.

Shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Those shadow puppets silhouetted on a screen
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.
Trouble me at night won’t let me sleep.

Endless Love

Posted in Song Lyrics
I chose this song lyric to put up next, as I've just finished recording it and it will be the last track on the album.

I wrote the rhythm first and it's based on a bourgaraboo rhythm I learned at a drum festival last summer. It was in 12/8 and it has the feel of a waltz.

Next came the tune and finally I was inspired to write the words after attending an event in Australia with my spiritual guide in September 2006. I've practiced the meditation he taught me since 1972, my whole adult life, and it's been my anchor and source of joy all this time. There's a link on my main blog page called Words of Peace if anyone's interested.

You can hear how the words fit with the rhythm (which is picked on the guitar) and the tune on myspace (see link to my music on right).

Endless Love

When I close my eyes
I see your face,
Near or far
Whatever dreams I chase.
Through the years and tears
You’ve stayed with me.
My friend, my guide
You’ve helped me see.

When I walk away
You turn me round,
Remind me of
The joy we’ve found.
When full of fear
You calm my heart.
I know from you
I’ll never part.

When I’m down and out
You hold my hand
Lead me to
The promised land.
Pour your endless
Love on me
Fire my soul and

Set it free
Set it free
Set it free…………………………..

Full Circle

Posted in Song Lyrics
This song is probably the most important one to me personally. In December 2004 my son went to Thailand travelling. On Christmas day he phoned to say hello and to wish us Happy Christmas and tell me he loves me. He told me he'd arrived safely at "the islands".

The next day, Boxing Day, my dad phoned at 8.30am asking me frantically if I'd seen The News - had I heard the terrible news - where was Daniel, everyone's been swept away and drowned, he's not at the coast is he? He's at the islands. Oh God, oh God! The terrible tsunami had struck Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, even parts of Africa......he's at the island, the island, the islands.....

I was floored, felt as though I'd been punched in the chest, I couldn't breathe, I lost it completely thinking that maybe my son had drowned in appalling conditions. We watched the news endlessly, phoned the Foreign Office, frantically trying to find out what had happened.

Thank God - he contacted me that night by email to say that he was alright - in fact he was on an island that wasn't affected.

Despite knowing he was alright, I couldn't get over the shock. I was very sick for about two weeks - upset stomach and vomiting, flashbacks to the day and constant grief for all the parents and people who had lost their loved ones. My heart was out there - I even felt guilty that I felt relieved my son was alright when I thought of what all those people were going through.

Anyway - once I did get over the shock - my whole life had changed. The experience made me completely re-evaluate what was working in my life and what wasn't. Shortly after this, in March I ended my marriage and started writing seriously and getting on with my music, which I felt I had to get done while I could.

Ironically, my first husband, my kids' father, drowned in the sea in March this year in a terrible accident in Venezuela - some of you may remember I wrote of it earlier in the year.

This song, Full Circle will be the title track of the album and came directly from the experience I had of the Tsunami.

FULL CIRCLE

I've turned full circle, back to me,
Swept by the power of the tsunami.
Picked up and carried to a different place,
Three hundred and sixty degrees, face to face.

First day of the rest of my life,
First day of the rest of my life,
It's the first day
Of the rest of my life.

I was always invisible, you looked straight through me.
You thought us indivisible, you couldn't see.
Denial is a dangerous game, it leads to lies.
You and I were not the same; it was compromise.

First day of the rest of my life,
First day of the rest of my life,
It's the first day
Of the rest of my life.

When I fell to ground, I was somewhere else,
As if I really didn't know myself.
I looked around; it was a different land,
There was someone else where you used to stand.

I've turned full circle, back to me,
Swept by the power of the tsunami.
Picked up and carried to a different place,
Three hundred and sixty degrees, face to face.

Yea, I've turned full circle,
Turned Full Circle,
Full circle........................................

Easy

Posted in Song Lyrics
I had the idea for this song from a flying dream. I thought it was a great idea to write a song about the things you can do when you're dreaming that you can't do when you're awake.

During the time I was writing this, a close friend of my daughter sadly died and the song then morphed into a song about what you can do when your soul is released from the body.

I find this song really difficult to sing as every time I do, all the people I know who've passed away come to mind and I get emotional.

EASY

Flying - don't need wings to fly.
Soaring - way up in the sky.
Dancing - up among the stars.
Spinning - orbiting round Mars.

Day by day, life is passing,
Easy.

Floating - upon the oceans deep.
Swimming - dark rivers in one leap.
Diving - blue water under ice.
Plunging - pools beyond our sight.

Day by day, life is passing,
Easy.

Shining - faces crystal clear.
Reaching - can't seem to hold you near.
Calling - but all of you are gone.
Fading- the light that always shone.

Flying - don't need wings to fly.
Soaring - way up in the sky.
Dancing - up among the stars.
Spinning - orbiting round Mars.

Day by day, life is passing,
Easy.
Easy.
Easy.

Clear As A Dream

Posted in Song Lyrics
This was the first song I ever wrote and it's had two incarnations. The first version was about sitting around writing songs and wondering how many other people were sitting around doing the same thing and it was very cheesy. Slowly I got rid of the first verse, added a new middle section which was written in 2005 and then wrote the tune on the piano!

I'm very happy with the recorded version which is very chilled and laid back.

The song is about those lovely moments of reminiscence when you remember happy moments about old friends or lovers from the past - not in a nostalgic way exactly - but as in fond memories! As a picture thus ".......framed in my sight like a smile, in my mind's eye....."

Clear As A Dream

Old friends and lovers stay a while
Framed in my sight like a smile
In my mind’s eye
Remembered love from yesterday
Caught in a song for today
And forever

Words sometimes clear as a dream
Spring from my mind like a stream

As we lay sun-touched in the mist,
A tear slid down your face.
Like dew it fell where we gently kissed.
Love stirred and woke from sleep.

Words sometimes clear as a dream
Spring from my mind like a stream

Old friends and lovers stay a while
Framed in my sight like a smile
In my mind’s eye
Remembered love from yesterday
Caught in a song for today
And forever

Words sometimes clear as a dream
Spring from my mind like a stream
Words sometimes clear as a dream.......

Can't Touch The Sky

Posted in Song Lyrics
I wrote this one shortly after Rhymester and I split up the first time (we split finally in Mar 2007).

The song is basically about expecting too much from relationships - trying to reach the impossible through human love when that feeling we seek is more of a spiritual attainment.

What does it mean to you?

Can't Touch The Sky

Why?
Why?
Can't we touch the sky,
Can't we touch the sky?

You,
You
Called to me so loud,
Above the stormy clouds.

We,
We,
We were nearly there
Lifted on warm air.

Two,
Two
Wanted to be one,
Forgot it can't be done

And when the day is gone,
We'll follow the sun.

Why?
Why?
Can't we touch the sky,
Can't we touch the sky?

And when the day is gone,
We'll follow the sun.
